Five Throws That Will Change the Way You See Disc Golf — and Accessibility

Domino’s Food Truck | Event

Most of us move through the world without thinking much about the barriers other people face every single day. Playing in My Shoes is an event designed to change that — one disc throw at a time.

Domino's Windsor will be on-site at Patillo Apple Orchard, 180 Patillo Rd, with fresh pizzas this Sunday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Before you come out, here is everything you need to know about the event and what makes it worth your afternoon.

The Five Challenges

Playing in My Shoes, presented by Innova Disc Golf for Accessibility Week in Canada, challenges every participant to complete five unique throws. Each one is designed to simulate a different physical experience on the disc golf course.

Wheelchair throw Play from a seated position. Feel the barriers that affect players who navigate the course this way every time they play. What looks like an open path from standing may look very different from a chair.

Wrong arm throw Throw with your non-dominant arm. For many people, reduced strength or mobility on one side is a daily reality — not an occasional inconvenience. This throw asks you to feel that.

Blindfold throw Can you find the basket without sight? This challenge strips away one of the senses most players rely on entirely, asking you to trust your instincts and your other senses.

Earplug throw Play with reduced hearing. Noise and verbal cues from other players, coaches, or the environment become inaccessible — and the game changes completely.

Taped hand throw With reduced grip, how does your throw change? Players with limited hand mobility or dexterity face this challenge on every round.

Why Patillo Apple Orchard?

Patillo Apple Orchard at 180 Patillo Rd is one of Windsor-Essex's most beautiful outdoor spaces — and one of its best-kept secrets. The orchard setting makes Playing in My Shoes feel like exactly what it is: a community gathering in a space that feels good to be in.

If you have not visited before, this Sunday is a wonderful introduction.

Come as You Are

No disc golf experience is required. The event is open to all ages and all abilities. Whether you are a seasoned disc golfer or have never held a disc in your life, you are welcome at Patillo Apple Orchard this Sunday.

The Domino's Windsor truck will be on-site serving fresh pizzas throughout the afternoon. Come for the experience, stay for the food, leave with a new perspective.
